Therefore we run between the workshops, talk a lot with all parties, cooperate with the builders and suppliers, sometimes fight to find the perfect!

Most important of all, we keep the owner of the boat within the design process just to make sure we and the owner feel it the same way.

We do not throw away the odd ideas but evolve them into “applicable” as we know very well the importance of being realistic.

KYD-Karatas Yacht Design Ltd. has been formed as formal company in 1996, by Naval Architect & Marine Eng. M.Sc. Ibrahim Karatas. After graduating from the Techical University of Istanbul, Naval Architecture faculty in 1988, he has started his career in Bodrum by drafting the gulets; the traditional wooden yachts of Turkish coast and Mediterranean within a Bodrum based design office. During his master degree on Naval Achitecture at the same school and following 8 years he has been employed by the well established yacht building yards and organisations in Tuzla as site & building engineer. The market demand at this time was more on the engineering services and designs that also tells how to do hints. He has established the KYD as design and engineering only company at 1996. Few years later this good start he has also became a partner to a building company who has dealt with steel, aluminum, composite and wood materilas and fast monohull motoryachts to power catamarans and long range sailing cruiser vessels in a short time period between 1999 and 2002.

With this extensive experience, the main principle took shape behind KARATAS Yacht’s Designs are to design the buildable and problem free forms, structures and systems.
“ Designing the applicable” is the key behind every detail.

KYD is capable of designing mega sailors to mega motoryachts while also enjoying the daysailors.
Although the area of interets is unlimited, however as of today most applied boat type so far is local gulets with towing tank tested underwater hull forms and appandages that resulted faster, more economic and better sailing abilities above 100’ and over. All with very high quality outfit, construction and interior.

Keeping the good relation with our designs, from initial design till delivery and the entire life span of the boat, is a must for us to keep continious feed back to build up the experience and always up to date boats.
